In 1989, Salman Khan launched a new face in his blockbuster film Maine Pyar Kiya. Twenty years later, Salman is still launching new faces.
his upcoming film Veer will introduce British model and Miss Universe UK 2008 Lisa Lazarus. Lisa grew up in Wales and is presently studying Diagnostic Radiography at the Hertfordshire University.
As we wait for Salman's latest discovery to hit the theatres, we take a look at the other women whose career he helped launch.
Sonam Kapoor
Before her debut in Saawariya (2007), Sonam assisted director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the making of his 2005 hit, Black.
Saawariya saw Ranbir Kapoor in fall with Sonam's character while she awaited her true love -- Salman Khan, in a cameo. The movie failed to light up the box office, and the Sonam-Salman jodi has not been tried again -- as yet.
Ali Larter
Well known American model and actress (Final Destination series, Legally Blonde and the hit telly series Heroes), Ali Larter made her Bollywood debut in Marigold.
She played an American, who aspires to become a Bollywood actress but ends up homeless and lost. Of course, Salman comes to her rescue and the two falls in love.
Sneha made her debut in 2004's Lucky: No Time for Love. Rumour has it that she was cast because of her uncanny resemblance to Aishwarya Rai, Salman's ex-love.
The film did not do well, and the jodi was never repeated. However, Sneha was cast in Salman's brother Sohail Khan's film, Aryan, which bombed. After an unsuccessful Bollywood career, Sneha turned toward the Telugu film industry
Bhoomika Chawla
After a hit career in the Telugu industry, Bhoomika turned her eyes to Bollywood. She debuted in the 2003 blockbuster Tere Naam, where she played a coy college girl in love with Salman's rowdy character.
Salman and Bhoomika paired up again in 2004's Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, directed by Salman's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri. The film tanked, and a few films later, Bhoomika got married.
Nagma
Nagma did her first film Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, at the tender age of 16. The film became a huge hit and established both hers and Salman's careers. Surprisingly, Salman and Nagma were never did any more film together.
After a stint in Bollywood, Nagma moved down South, and later to the Bhojpuri and Punjabi film industry.
Raveena Tandon
She started her career in Bollywood with the 1991 hit Patthar Ke Phool. She played a young girl in love with a police inspector, played by Salman.
Raveena and Salman were seen once again in the 1994 comedy Andaz Apna Apna -- but they were not paired up together. Karisma Kapoor was trying to get Salman's attention while Aamir Khan tried to romance Raveena.
Raveena and Salman paired up in the 1997 film Dus but the film got shelved, and released later with a different star cast. Their pairing in the 2000 film, Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaaye did not work.
Bhagyashree
Bhagyashree Patwardhan started her career with a television series called Kachchi Dhoop in 1983. Six years later, her first film with Salman, Maine Pyar Kiya, was a huge blockbuster.
While Salman went on to make a successful career in Bollywood, Bhagyashree faded away. She made a comeback on television with a couple of TV serials, including Jhalak Dhikhhla Jaa.
